RIDE SAFE ~ RIDE PONO
Bicycle Racing Kaua`i encourages all cyclists to follow our
safety and etiquette rules:

  • Be safe!
  • Wear a helmet. Your helmet strap must be firmly fastened under your chin.
  • Aero bars— On group rides, aero bar use is allowed under the following conditions: Keep a minimum of 4 bike lengths away from other riders, do not draft riders on aero bars, go off the front or the back of the group, and announce to riders around you when you’re going aero.
  • Stop signs — stop & put your foot down. Don’t roll-through
  • Pace lines— Rotate to the left and don’t overlap wheels in the line. Call out hazards and point them out using  hand/arm signals. Pass hazard alerts down the pace line so everyone knows, especially riders in the back.
  • Electronic devices— Do not use phones, cameras, 2-way radios, etc. while riding. If you need to make or take a call, or take a picture or video, safely pull out of the group, get off the road, and put your foot on the ground.
  • Ear buds, headphones (including bone-conduction)– Set a good example by leaving them at home or keeping them in your pocket so they’re not visible during rides.
  • Don’t litter (bar and gel wrappers, etc.)
  • Look out for each other— Stop to help out with flats and  mechanical problems. Don’t leave anyone behind.
If there’s a crash, here’s what to do:  TCT Accident Protocol by AK 2009
  • Share what you know— Help each other become better cyclists.
  • Have fun!
